IADC members E. Paul Cauley, Jr. and Martin J. Healy, along with their team from Sedgwick LLP, defeated a class action on behalf of a major automaker. Plaintiffs had attempted to certify classes of consumers in New Jersey, California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland related to alleged automatic transmission defects claimed to present a safety hazard in several models and model years of vehicles. The action, pending before the Honorable Joseph E. Irenas in the District of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage, was terminated on December 29, 2014 after the Court granted motions for summary judgment as to all named Plaintiffs and denied Plaintiffs’ Motion for Class Certification.
