From its initial publication in 1934 as the Insurance Counsel Journal, the Defense Counsel Journal has been a forum for the publication of topical and scholarly writings on the law, its development and reform, and on the practice of law. Taking the viewpoint of the practitioner and litigator in the civil defense and insurance fields, the Defense Counsel Journal considers at a scholarly level current legal trends and informs its readership of timely problems that they may face in their practice. The Defense Counsel Journal is frequently and favorably cited by courts and other legal scholarship.

The opinions and positions stated in authored material are those of the author and not of the International Association of Defense Counsel. Contributing authors are expected to have disclosed any financial, economic, or professional interest or affiliation that may have influenced positions taken or advocated in their work.
