IADC members Duarte Henriques (BCH Lawyers - Portugal) and Guilherme Rizzo Amaral (Souto Correa Advogados – Brasil) will be speakers at the upocoming NYIAC (New York International Arbitration Center) Grand Central Forum in New York. They will be joined by Judge Thomas Andrieu (Director of the Civil Affairs and Seal Department, Ministry of Justice, France), Samaa A. Haridi (Hogan Lovells US LLP), and Daniel Schimmel (Foley Hoag LLP).

This year, the Grand Central Forum’s theme will be “Resolving business disputes: Are there converging international standards?” According to the official programm, “Panelists will explore whether recent developments in international commercial arbitration and the creation of international business courts in Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Singapore, and other key cities reflect a convergence of international standards. To what extent do they promote fairness, efficiency, and flexibility while borrowing from different legal traditions, as opposed to simply replicating the common law tradition? Panelists will discuss topics, such as (i) access to evidence and witnesses, (ii) predictability in the time frame, (iii) experience of arbitrators and judges, (iv) role of lawyers as both zealous advocates and “officers of the court,” and (v) costs reflecting the expectations of users.”

The event will take place on July 9, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m., at the New York International Arbitration Center (NYIAC 150 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017).
