Continuing an IADC Conversation About Becoming an Active Ally to Women: How to Get Involved, Stay Involved, and Educate Others About Equality and Social Injustice

Tuesday, December 15, 2020
01:30 PM - 02:30 PM Central Standard Time (US & Mexico)

Please join the IADC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for a panel discussion.

Join the IADC at 1:30 p.m. CST on Tuesday, December 15 for a continuation of our diversity, equity, and inclusion discussions focusing on identifying ways each of us can become more than allies in the fight for equality and social justice. This discussion will kick off the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee’s Empowerment Collaborative by focusing on the challenges that women in the legal profession continue to face. Even though more than 50% of law school classes are women, barely 20% of equity partners at larger firms and only 29% of General Counsel are women. When intersectionality is considered, the percentages are stark. The number of women who are not white barely comprise 2% of equity partners at firms, and only 5% of General Counsel. These percentages have been stagnant for decades. At the same time, women face continued challenges to build essential relationships with male mentors and sponsors in light of “Me Too” concerns and related issues. Yet, the men in power who care remain a critical component of the success of women in the legal profession. This program will be a conversation that will include personal stories and concrete action items that will allow you to educate yourself about the challenges women in the profession face and will help you to better support the recruitment, retention, and promotion of female attorneys at your workplace.
