On June 1, 2020, Mitchell Smith of Germer PLLC became president of the 600  attorney Jefferson County, Texas Bar Association after being elected president-elect in May 2019. Mitchell is tasked with leading his local bar as the southeast Texas legal community continues to recover and adjust from a trifecta of disasters:  Hurricane Harvey, Tropical Storm Imelda, and COVID-19. The Jefferson County Bar Association is informally known as “the Best Little Bar in Texas” for its accomplishments in pro bono work, bar activities, civic leadership, and completion of Texas State Bar-directed projects.

Prior to his tenure as president, Mitchell served two elected terms on the board of the Jefferson County Bar Association, two elected terms on the board of the Jefferson County Young Lawyers Association, and a ten-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Jefferson County Bar Journal, a quarterly publication and perennial award winner at the State Bar of Texas’ Annual Meeting. He served also on the Board of Editors of “The Texas Bar Journal” for a four-year term.

Mitchell maintains an active practice representing clients in the transportation industry as well as handling a busy commercial litigation practice, primarily in the energy sector. He is Chair of the IADC’s Transportation Committee and Vice Chair of Communications of the Insurance/Reinsurance Committee.
