IADC member Jack White, a partner at FH H, was appointed as one of five civilian experts to serve on an independent panel to review the cultural climate at the Fort Hood Army installation, in the wake of SPC Vanessa Guillen’s murder and her family’s allegations of sexual misconduct at the base.

“I am honored to be invited to serve on the panel and proud to engage in such a meaningful undertaking for the benefit of our service members,” White said.

In July, the panel was tasked by Mr. Ryan McCarthy, secretary to the Army, to review historical data and conduct interviews to determine the command climate and culture at the Fort Hood base. The panel was set to determine whether the command climate and culture at the base, and the surrounding military community, reflects the Army’s values, including safety, respect, inclusiveness, and a commitment to diversity, and workplaces and communities free from sexual harassment.

Jack, along with four other panel members, appeared before the House Subcommittee on Military Personnel on December 9 for a public hearing on the report’s findings and recommendations. During a press conference on December 8, the findings of the independent review were discussed. The report set forth nine findings and 70 constructive recommendations. It was also announced that the Army will adopt all recommendations, initiating changes to current Army policies.

Information on the hearing can be found here.

Mr. White served in both the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve after graduating from the Military Academy at West Point. He later earned his J.D. degree from Pepperdine University School of Law and clerked for the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. White has almost two decades of experience in government investigations, civil rights litigations, and in advising and representing clients in a wide variety of matters.
