M.C. Sungaila, a shareholder at Buchalter, received a 2020 Women of Distinction Honor. The award, given from California Assembly Member Cottie Petrie-Norris, recognizes outstanding women whose service made an impact in the local community.
M.C. has a long record of pro bono legal work and board service. In more than 50 pro bono appeals, she has secured important rights for women and girls, ensured the return of Holocaust stolen art, and protected the rights of gay and transgender asylum seekers. She has served on nonprofit boards continuously since 1996, including Pacific Symphony and the RAND Institute for Civil Justice. M.C. received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2017 in recognition of her combined professional achievements, humanitarian, and pro bono work.
