iCivics Receives MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions

February 5, 2015 04:07 PM

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation formally announced that iCivics is one of just nine nonprofits worldwide to receive their prestigious MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions (MACEI). The MACEI award recognizes exceptional nonprofit organizations who have demonstrated creativity and impact, and invests in their long-term sustainability with sizable one-time grants.

MACEI is the organizational version of the MacArthur “genius” awards. iCivics has been able to reach far and change how civics is taught in U.S. classrooms.

iCivics is the recipient of a $750,000 award, which will be used to establish a revolving venture fund to support innovation and financial sustainability, to strengthen its fundraising capacity, and to equip a new Boston office. Most importantly, it will secure iCivics’ ability to promote Sandra Day O’Connor’s legacy for many more years to come.
