Michael M. Marick, a partner with the Chicago-based law firm of Meckler Bulger Tilson Marick & Pearson LLP, has been elected to the Board of Regents of the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel (“ACCEC”). Marick was elected by other ACCEC fellows to serve on its fifteen-member Board at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago, May 6-7, 2014.

The ACCEC, established in 2012, is composed of preeminent coverage and extracontractual counsel in the United States and Canada, representing the interests of both insurers and policyholders. The ACCEC is focused on the creative, ethical, and efficient adjudication of insurance coverage and extracontractual disputes, peer-provided scholarship, professional coordination and the improvement of the relationship between and among its diverse members. Through its Board of Regents and its working committees, the ACCEC engages in a wide variety of activities designed to promote those goals, in addition to improving the civility and the quality of the practice of insurance law.

Tom Segalla, President of the ACCEC, said of Marick’s election: “Thought leadership has been critical to the growth of the ACCEC. The addition of Mike and his leadership skills to the ACCEC’s Board will greatly enhance and facilitate our continued growth, educational programming and overall mission.”

Marick is a founding member of Meckler Bulger Tilson Marick & Pearson (MBT), an 80-attorney firm widely known for its nationwide insurance coverage and bad faith practice. For more than 30 years, he has represented insurers across the country in high exposure disputes over liability coverage at the claim state, in trial courts and on appeal. Marick has represented insurers in a broad range of coverage and bad faith matters, including toxic torts, environmental matters, professional liability and many other types of losses.

Marick has held various leadership roles in addition to his new position as a member of the Board of Regents of the ACCEC. He is Chair of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Insurance Law Committee and was selected to membership in the American Law Institute. In addition, he has also been selected by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America and is recognized in Euromoney’s World’s Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers.

A 1982 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, Marick is a member of the school’s Board of Overseers, and has been honored with its Distinguished Service and Career Achievement Awards and also named as one of its top 125 Alumni of Distinction.  He received his B.A. from Denison University in 1979.
