Amy M. Stewart, Founding Partner of Stewart Law Group PLLC, has been elected Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section. The ABA, the largest association for litigators and trial lawyers in the country, is committed to promoting the rule of law, leading on ethical standards, and ensuring access to justice for all. At a practical level, the Section provides invaluable CLE programs and business development opportunities that help members thrive in the legal profession by building knowledge and relationships essential to career success.
Amy began her involvement with the Section’s Business Torts and Unfair Competition Committee in 2012. Reflecting on her early legal career, Amy recalled, “When I was a young associate at Cox Smith, now Dykema, two of the firm’s partners, Marty Truss and Deborah Williamson, ‘volun-told’ me to get involved with the Section.” She contributed to the Business Torts Committee by helping publish substantive CLEs and articles on commercial litigation topics and leading the committee to become the first in the Section to establish a social media presence to highlight member benefits.
Amy also reflected on the impact of her mentors, saying, “Following Marty and Deborah’s advice to join the Section was one of the best professional decisions I made as a young attorney. Section leaders welcomed me, provided opportunities to grow as a leader, and offered exceptional resources and networking opportunities. I am also honored to follow in the footsteps of my mentors, United States Senior District Judge Barbara M. G. Lynn, and DLA Piper Partner Kim Askew, both of whom blazed a trail in leadership of the Section.”
As Chair-Elect, Amy looks forward to playing a leadership role in several major ABA Litigation Section conferences and meetings, including the Fall Leadership Meeting, Insurance Coverage CLE Seminar, Section Annual Conference, Winter Leadership Meeting, Spring Leadership Meeting, Leader Development Summit, and the ABA Midyear Meeting.
