Beverly Godbey Elected Chair of Board of the State Bar of Texas

Beverly B. Godbey, a partner in the Dallas office of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas. She will assume the position during the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting to be held June 23-24, 2011 in San Antonio and will serve as chair until June 2012.

Godbey’s practice has focused on commercial litigation, including insurance coverage, bad faith, ERISA, deceptive trade practices, and product liability.

Her State Bar experience includes serving on the Committee and Section Review Task Force, Client Security Fund Committee, Annual Meeting Committee, Budget Committee, Audit and Finance Committee, Executive Committee and Public Services and Education Committee. She serves on the Texas Access to Justice Commission and is chair of the Bar Leaders for Justice Committee to increase funding and facilitate the delivery of pro bono civil legal services to the poor.

Godbey is a past president of the Dallas Bar Association and Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. She is a life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Dallas Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the American Law Institute.

She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Southern Methodist University and earned her J.D. from Tulane University Law School. She is married to Hon. David Godbey.

The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
