IADC members Bruce Parker and Craig Thompson of Venable LLP, along with H. Douglas Wabner of Norton Rose Fulbright, obtained a major win for Takeda Pharmaceutical Company after a month-long trial in Baltimore City. Thompson, Parker, and Wabner defended the company against claims that its diabetes drug, Actos, caused a 72-year old former smoker to develop bladder cancer. They argued that the drug was properly labeled, the patient's physician was adequately warned about potential risks, and the patient's bladder cancer was caused by other factors.
The judge entered judgment for Takeda after the jury deliberated for almost six hours.
