The Charlotte Business Journal has named Nexsen Pruet litigator Chris Lam as a member of this year's class of "Forty Under 40."

This is the paper's 20th anniversary of the "40 under 40" awards, which recognize young professionals who have "shaped our community in ways that have made the Charlotte region a better place to do business."

Excerpts from Lam's profile:

"Greatest civic accomplishment of the past year: Planning an interactive panel for the students in the Duke Engage program on children and the legal system to discuss how courts, agencies, and nonprofits can help at-risk children."

"The most important issue facing the region: Continuing to attract, develop, and foster a diverse business economy while helping our most vulnerable and needy citizens."

Lam is a Member of the Business Litigation Group in Charlotte. He primarily represents businesses in litigation, including disputes related to contracts, trade secrets, defamation, and product liability, but he also defends professionals including doctors, lawyers, dentists, and counselors, in disciplinary proceedings before their respective licensing boards.

Lam's civic activities include the Legal Services of Southern Piedmont Board of Directors, Legal Advisor to the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the Administration of Justice Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Personnel Committee of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He and the rest of the 2013 "40 Under 40" honorees were recognized on March 28th at the McGlohon Theater in Uptown.
