As the IADC celebrates its 100th anniversary, we have an opportunity to reflect upon the important ways in which the organization continues to educate and support its members. Against this backdrop, I look forward to continuing to serve as the Chair of the IADC’s Professional Liability Committee throughout this milestone year.

The lawyers who comprise this Committee represent professionals in matters that arise from the provision of client services. The professionals include health care providers, lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers, corporate directors and officers, insurance brokers and agents, real estate brokers and agents, appraisers, and other miscellaneous professionals. The Committee’s primary objectives include keeping its members apprised of developments in professional liability law, presenting educational seminars, and publishing material regarding professional liability issues.

In furtherance of its goals, the Committee recently sponsored three programs at the 2020 IADC Midyear Meeting, and will be sponsoring another one at the upcoming 2020 IADC Annual Meeting. The Committee also sponsored a Webinar last November titled “Hospital Liability: Trends and Tactics in Plaintiffs’ Search of the ‘Mega Verdict,'” and will be sponsoring another one on April 22nd titled “Selection of Ethical Issues Related to the Attorney-Client Privilege.” We have monthly telephone calls that result in lively discussions of current issues in the field and in specific states. We invite Committee members to share their own works, achievements, and professional activities with the Committee and with the IADC membership at large. In addition, we encourage fellow IADC members to join the Committee and welcome new members and new ideas at all times.

Although the membership of the IADC and the organization’s name has changed since its inception in 1920, the Association’s original purpose of fostering good will and cooperation among lawyers still applies. As a member of the IADC since 2012, I look forward to working with my fellow members to continue to fulfill the Association’s important goals.
