We are excited to introduce Governor James Thompson and David Wilhelm as our special luncheon speakers for the Corporate Counsel College.

Governer James Thompson - Illinois' longest-serving chief executive  and Senior Chairman of Winston & Strawn LLP

As Illinois' longest-serving chief executive (14 years), Governor James Thompson was noted for his skill in settling difficult labor-management problems, his ability to manage one of the nation's largest public budgets while maintaining one of the nation's highest state bond ratings, and his leadership role among his peers. After Governor Thompson left office, he served as Chairman of the President George H.W. Bush Intelligence Oversight Board during the 1990's. Later he served as a member of the President's National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, which held hearings after 9/11 and made recommendations to Congress and the President that are still being implemented.

Listed in The National Law Journal as one of the nation's 100 most influential lawyers, Governor James Thompson currently serves as Senior Chairman of Winston & Strawn LLP.

David Wilhelm - Youngest ever Chair of the Democratic National Committee

Mr. Wilhelm is well known for his political work, which has included managing campaigns for President Bill Clinton, Senator Paul Simon, Senator Joe Biden, and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. In 1993, he became the youngest ever Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Mr. Wilhelm is the Founder and President of Woodland Venture Management, a company that raises and invests private equity in parts of the country that are underserved by the nation's financial industry. Woodland has become one of the nation's leading sources of capital in the Midwest and central Appalachia. In that capacity, Mr. Wilhelm founded Adena Ventures, a venture capital fund targeting central Appalachia, which includes the southeastern Ohio area in which he was raised. Mr. Wilhelm is a partner and member of the fund's investment committee. He also founded a second fund, Hopewell Ventures, which brings investment dollars to entrepreneurs in the nation's heartland, specifically a seven-state region stretching from Ohio to Nebraska.
