President's Page - Volume 86, Number 2

The Defense Counsel Journal has always been special, but this issue is particularly special for me, as it will be the final one for which I am privileged to submit a President’s Page. This year has been epic, and the opportunity to serve you and this amazing organization has been a once in a lifetime experience. I will be forever grateful for your trust and support.

The IADC is in a class of its own when it comes to the provision of cutting-edge legal information and thought-provoking analyses of subjects. With timely CLE presentations, world class trial skills training and Webinars, our members share the best of what we are as attorneys and insurance executives on a regular basis. 

Our organizational theme this year is “One World. One Mission. One IADC.” Our focus has been on the exploration of the legal issues and professional areas of interest that unite us around the globe. The authors featured in this issue of the DCJ strongly support this mission with several outstanding articles, and provide excellent content for discussion and use by legal professionals.

Many thanks to Derek Smith, Jeremy Goldkind, and William Andrichik who give us substantive information regarding the use, and sometimes misuse, of the Bradford Hill criteria. Kudos to Desmond Barry and Evan Kwarta, who update us on the litigation aftermath related to September 11. We truly appreciate Mitch Lathrop, who advises us on matters regarding class arbitration. Finally, we thank Mica Nguyen Worthy, whose article on the intersection between international disputes and public policy is extremely informative.

There is no better time to be a member of the IADC, and no more critical period to read and learn from the masters in our midst. The articles contained in this issue will not only serve to enhance our awareness of several important legal and public policy topics, but advance our mission to provide unparalleled value to our members.

The words of Abraham Lincoln remind us that “important principles may and must be inflexible.” A critical principle of the IADC is the timely publication of scholarly information through the Defense Counsel Journal, and our commitment to this principle will remain inflexible. May you be enlightened and encouraged by the information you receive in this edition.
