PROGRAMMING

Director Anna Cook (Bristows LLP) has put together a timely program on the theme Ethical Dangers and the Roles and Responsibilities of an In-House Lawyer

The Post Office scandal is the largest miscarriage of justice in UK history, in which more than 900 sub postmasters were wrongfully convicted of theft, fraud, and false accounting. This led to a statutory public inquiry, which concluded in December 2024. The inquiry revealed failures of governance, decision making, culture and ethics, including failures in the conduct of the lawyers.

The scandal prompted wide-ranging debate about ethical compliance and how to uphold the values of the legal profession. This conference explores the range of pressures faced by in-house lawyers, such as criminal risks and liabilities, stressed stakeholders, unexpected events, a changed information environment, political pressures, and the evolution of risk for an in-house team.

Program highlights include:

  • Companies in the Crosshairs: When Criminal Offenses and Civil Liability Intersect
  •  How to Keep Your Head, Uphold Ethical Standards, and Act as an Effective Lawyer and Business Leader When Senior Stakeholders Are Under Pressure (AKA Keep Calm, Carry On, Do Not Fail)
  • The Rule of Law in Uncertain Times: Maneuvering Your Company Through Changing U.S. Policies
  • Misinformation, Disinformation, and the AI Revolution
  • Caught in the Web: What Do You Do When Your Company Becomes The Focus of Online Media Attention
  • Future-Proofing Legal: Cultivating Legal Teams for Tomorrow’s Risks
  • If I Knew Then….An In-House Perspective on the Practice of Law in 2025 and Training Up a New Generation of Lawyers
  • Keynote Speaker Robin Weyell
