Asian Discrimination in the Shadow of COVID-19 - Continuing the IADC Conversation About Becoming an Active Ally with a Focus on Asian Allyship: How to Get Involved, Stay Involved, and Educate Others About Racial and Social Injustice

Thursday, August 27, 2020
01:30 PM - 02:30 PM

Please join the IADC Diversity and Inclusion Committee for a panel discussion.

Join the IADC at 1:30 p.m. CDT on Thursday, August 27 for a continuation of our previous diversity and inclusion discussion focusing on identifying ways each of us can become more than allies in the fight for racial equality and social justice. While we have started to explore how we can become allies to our Black and Latinx friends and colleagues, this week’s discussion will focus on the experiences of members of the Asian community who in the last few years have faced increased violence, and particularly in light of COVID-19. Asians have also been impacted in the United States by immigration issues and constantly face the perception of being an outsider, i.e., not an American. Our panelists will share personal stories and concrete action items that will include steps you can take to educate yourself and to make changes in your workplace, your community, and the organizations that you support, toward ending racism and social inequality.

MODERATED BY:
Deborah St. Lawrence Thompson, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, Baltimore, Maryland USA with assistance from Alexandra Simotta, SIX Payment Services (Europe) S.A., Vienna, Austria

PANELISTS:
Melissa Lin, Righi Fitch Law Group, Phoenix, Arizona USA
Jennifer So, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Torrance, California USA
Wesley Sunu, Sentry Insurance, Stevens Point, Wisconsin USA
