Join the IADC at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, March 23 as we continue our diversity and inclusion discussions focusing on identifying ways each of us can become more than allies in the fight for racial equality in the legal profession and social justice.

Although the U.S. Muslim population has grown significantly over the past two decades, views toward Muslims have become increasingly polarized along political lines. Many Americans have negative views toward Muslims and Islam with approximately 53% who say they don't personally know anyone who is Muslim, and a similar number who say they know "not much" or "nothing at all" about Islam.

In this discussion, we will examine how our Muslim colleagues and those who practice Islam are viewed and treated in the legal community in our current sociopolitical atmosphere and how this impacts our Muslim colleagues in the workplace and beyond. Our panel will discuss how racial and religious fears and stereotypes affect the hiring, promotion, and retention of Muslim attorneys in private law firms and businesses. Our panelists will share personal stories and concrete action items that will include steps you can take to educate yourself on the unique daily struggles Muslim attorneys face in the workspace, cultivate more accepting, welcoming social spaces for Muslims, and end social inequality.

For more facts on Islam, view this handout.
