IADC Foundation: Spotlight on iCivics

iCivics, funded in part by an IADC Foundation grant, is the nation’s largest provider of and champion for high quality, equitable, and nonpartisan civic education. iCivics was founded by the Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor in 2009 to ensure that the practice of democracy is learned by each new generation and to inspire life-long civic engagement. Each year, iCivics’ award-winning resources are used by 145,000 teachers and 9 million students in classrooms across the United States. Join us and learn more about this important work being done from iCivics’ Chief Education Officer.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Understand the history of civic learning in the United States, as well as its current status, trends, and public opinion.
  2. Identify the policy needs and efforts required to improve our nation's K-12 civic education for a more robust constitutional democracy.
  3. Explore how iCivics reimagines civic learning for American democracy, including its world-class, engaging instructional materials, and how the audience members might leverage them.

PRESENTER:
Emma Humphries, iCivics, Saint Simons Island, Georgia USA
