Litigation Daily Recognizes IADC Member Mark Cheffo as Litigator of the Week

April 8, 2016 06:37 PM

Litigation Daily singled out IADC member and 2016 Trial Academy faculty member Mark Cheffo for an exceptional two weeks. Mark led teams that knocked out plaintiffs’ expert testimony in not one, but two major MDL litigations for his client Pfizer Inc.

On March 30, U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel in Charleston, South Carolina, presiding over an MDL in which plaintiffs alleged that the cholesterol drug Lipitor caused type 2 diabetes, dismissed virtually all of the expert reports upon which plaintiffs’ counsel based their causation theories connecting Lipitor and contracting type 2 diabetes.

Then on April 5 U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe in Philadelphia dismissed a multidistrict litigation alleging that the antidepressant Zoloft caused birth defects when taken by pregnant women. The judge had previously sided with Mark and his team in excluding testimony from the plaintiffs’ experts about a possible causal link between the drug and birth defects.

Congratulations to Mark for an exceptional two weeks.
