In July, M.C. Sungaila spoke to 650 collegians and alumni and accepted the Frances E. Willard Award of Achievement at Alpha Phi International Fraternity’s 68th biennial Convention in Miami, Florida. The Frances E. Willard Award honors Alpha Phi alumnae who have achieved outstanding success in their chosen field and have gained recognition on a national or international level. Twenty-nine women have received this prestigious award -- Alpha Phi’s highest honor -- recognizing distinguished alumnae in education, law, government, science and the arts. One of the first recipients of the award was Dorothy W. Nelson, now a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, for whom Ms. Sungaila served as an extern during law school. Previous recipients also include Georgia Neese Clark Gray, the first woman to serve as U.S. Treasurer, Barbara Blakemore, Executive Editor of McCall’s, and Andrea Wong, Chief Executive Officer and President of Lifetime Entertainment Services, Inc.
