Goldberg Segalla founding partner and IADC member Thomas F. Segalla led the team of lawyers who wrote the inaugural edition of the Reinsurance Professional’s Deskbook: A Practical Guide, a new treatise co-produced by leading legal publisher Thomson Reuters and DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar, the largest organization of defense lawyers in the country.

The Reinsurance Professional’s Deskbook is a comprehensive resource that explores in depth traditional insurance and reinsurance concepts as well as emerging trends in today’s insurance markets, with a focus on practical assessment and application to address the toughest challenges facing insurance, reinsurance, and legal professionals.

Mr. Segalla - co-author of the renowned insurance law treatise Couch on Insurance 3d — served as Editor in Chief while seven attorneys from Goldberg Segalla’s Global Insurance Services Practice Group were among the book’s 35 contributing authors and editors. One contributing author included IADC member and Goldberg Segalla attorney Daniel W. Gerber, Co-Chair with Mr. Segalla of the Global Insurance Services team.

The involvement of these Goldberg Segalla attorneys included serving as editors of Part III, “The Claims Process,” and Part V, “Regulatory, Alternative Risk Transfers, and Other Recent Developments.” The chapters members of the team co-authored are “Overview of the Reinsurance Regulatory Environment,” “Reinsurance Regulation in the U.S.,” “International Insurance,” “Run-off and Transfer Risk,” and “The Emergence of Insurance-Linked Securities.”

The book highlights pragmatic approaches to managing the full range of regulatory, coverage, and claims issues, including collection strategies, payment protocols, industry investigation, management of disputes, exhaustion, late notice, and the relationship of reinsurers and cedents at various stages. Through “Practice Pointers,” the authors share their insight into many of the issues being addressed, arbitrated, and litigated in the current reinsurance environment.

The book’s authors and editors include 19 prominent members of DRI, as well as leading insurance industry representatives.

The Reinsurance Professional’s Deskbook will be available in January 2015. Copies may be pre-ordered from Thomson Reuters at legalsolutions.com.
