Kash of Ryley Carlock & Applewhite, reported the successful outcome on behalf of his client, Beck Internacional de Mexico SA de CV, aka Beck International, an international construction company against Pelican Partners International SRL de CV, the owner/developer who refused to pay Beck International's final application for payment and for extra work in the construction of a five-star resort in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. Beck International was hired to take over for the owner, who was unable to complete construction of this in excess of $60 million project, with its own forces. Beck International's contract work exceeded $30 million.

    Kevin C. Schiferl, an attorney at Frost Brown Todd, is a 2010 recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier award. The Distinguished Hoosier is one of the highest awards given by the state of Indiana to its citizens. It is given at the discretion of the governor to Hoosiers who have brought honor to the state through their character and accomplishments. Chief Justice Randall Shepard presented the award to Mr. Schiferl at a recent ceremony in Zionsville.

  • Courtroom Success: James A. King

    IADC member James A. King reports that he won a successful appeal in Davis v. Brouse McDowell, the Federal Circuit’s first precedential patent law malpractice decision issued in 2010. The case involved an inventor who claimed that a partner of an Ohio-based law firm committed malpractice in prosecuting both domestic and foreign patent applications for her inventions. The district court granted summary judgment for the law firm and the partner, and the Federal Circuit affirmed.
