At the Annual Meeting of the ABA in San Francisco, Roy Alan Cohen, a senior principal at Porzio, Bromberg & Newman in Morristown, New Jersey, completed his year as Chair of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section and will serve as Immediate Past Chair for the next year.

This concluded six years in leadership, three years on the Council, and then years as Vice Chair, Chair-Elect, and Chair, during which time he led committees focused on strategic planning, membership, content management, member services, and networking/technology integration. He spearheaded efforts addressing emerging issues and trends, forming new committees focused on from cannabis law and policy, pharmaceutical and medical device work, cybersecurity and data privacy, and women trial lawyers. He focused on diversifying TIPS leadership, developing a strategic liaison relationship with the Young Lawyers Division, exceeding membership targets, a more streamlined budgeting process, and creating more tangible member value. Mr. Cohen's parting remarks lauded these achievements, congratulated his successors, and pointed out that the Section's future is as bright as ever.

Mr. Cohen is a senior trial lawyer with more than 40 years of experience litigating and trying a wide variety of product liability and toxic tort, construction and construction defect, environmental and groundwater contamination, professional liability involving architects, engineers, environmental consultants, lawyers, and directors/officers, automotive and trucking, premises liability, and class action and business litigation matters.

He leads trial teams in New Jersey and New York, often working collaboratively with other lawyers around the country as a virtual law firm. Mr. Cohen serves as national, regional, and local counsel to foreign and domestic companies and their lawyers and is outside general counsel to a number of clients, who prize his strategic approach to litigation, case analysis, early resolution, cost, and obtaining results. As a result, his litigation experience is substantially valued by large corporations as well as their insurance carriers.
Mr. Cohen is a nationally recognized leader in the legal community. Aside from his TIPS activities, he was previously Chair of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Toxic and Hazardous Substances Committee and served on the faculty of the 2013 Trial Academy at Stanford Law School. He was also chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Product Liability and Toxic Tort Section, and is a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council, the Litigation Counsel of America, and the Trucking Industry Defense Association.

He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America, Top Attorneys in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly, and in New Jersey Super Lawyers in various categories for many years and certified and recertified multiple times since 1987 by the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board on Trial Certification as a Civil Trial Attorney. Given his years of experience and special insights, Mr. Cohen is a sought-after author and lecturer on litigation and trial subjects.
