Stephen E. Goldman has been elected Managing Partner of Robinson+Cole. Steve Goldman succeeds John B. Lynch, Jr. who led the firm for seven years.

A trial lawyer at Robinson+Cole since 1980 with a focus on insurance coverage and class action litigation, Mr. Goldman has tried approximately 30 cases to conclusion in a wide range of jurisdictions throughout the United States, has handled numerous federal and state appeals in multiple jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of the United States, and has served as lead counsel in many cases that have had high national visibility.

“Robinson+Cole, which recently celebrated its 170th anniversary, has also always been dedicated to adapting to new trends and technologies in order to provide the best value and highest quality service to our clients,” said Goldman. “I am honored to be taking on the role of managing partner at the firm where I established my legal career 35 years ago. Robinson+Cole is a special place where our lawyers and staff collaborate to provide the best possible services to our clients. It is no accident that our firm has consistently been ranked as being among the best places to work in multiple offices. Our lawyers and staff members always go the extra mile to support each other and our clients. We have tremendous loyalty to one another, to the firm that we are a part of, and to our clients.”

During Lynch’s tenure, Robinson+Cole achieved substantial success during a time that was extremely challenging for most law firms. The firm continued to attract and retain top legal talent, and continued to adjust its delivery of legal services to meet and exceed the expectations of its clients. The firm underwent a number of changes, including the creation of a new practice group structure to better serve industry clients across various legal fronts with more streamlined and comprehensive services, significant investments in the firm’s technology systems to bolster both internal operations and direct services to clients, and the relocation or renovation of all of the firm’s main offices. The firm also opened an office in Miami, Florida, to better serve clients with legal needs in Florida and the Caribbean.

“Steve has deep roots and broad experience at Robinson+Cole and I am confident he will be an excellent leader of our firm,” said Lynch. “He has been one of the leading partners of our litigation and insurance practices for many years, and has been instrumental in taking our litigation practice from a regional to a national platform. He has served in many critical firm wide roles over the years, including, most recently, his service on the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee. Steve is both a tenacious litigator and a valued counselor for both our firm and its clients, and I’m certain he is prepared to guide our firm to the next level as managing partner.”

Speaking about the culture of the firm, Goldman said, “Collaboration is the essence of our culture, and, it has energized me and helped me succeed throughout my career. I am excited about the opportunity to further enhance our firm, continue to cultivate this culture of collaboration, and continue the firm’s proud history of achieving outstanding results and providing excellent value for our clients. I also look forward to working with my colleagues on the Managing Committee and everyone at Robinson+Cole to support and help our practice groups identify substantive and geographic expansion opportunities that will further develop our regional, national, and international capabilities, enabling us to provide even greater service and value for our clients.”

Mr. Goldman served for five years as the board president of Greater Hartford Legal Aid, and is a past recipient of the Public Service Award of the Hartford County Bar Association. He has also served a lengthy term on the Board (and the Executive Committee) of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, a premier, highly-selective national organization of defense and in-house counsel. He currently serves as the Connecticut State Chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers, in which he is a Fellow. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Lawyers, a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation, and a Fellow in the Connecticut Bar Foundation. He is also a member of the Lawyers Committee for the National Center for State Courts. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2006. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Law (property insurance) and at Western New England School of Law (trial practice).
