Thomas J. Hurney, Jr. Named Defense Lawyer of the Year by DTCWV

Thomas J. Hurney, Jr. was presented with the first Defense Lawyer of the Year Award by the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia (DTCWV) at its 2014 Annual Meeting in May.

The Defense Lawyer of the Year Award is presented to a member of the DTCWV who has demonstrated ethical, personal, and professional conduct consistent with the ideals of the organized defense bar, who has made a significant contribution to its goals and objectives and whose service is truly distinguished. DTCWV, which was formed in 1981, is a cohesive network of West Virginia attorneys who defend individuals and corporations in civil litigation. 2014 is the first year for the award, which is to be presented annually. 

Hurney’s practice involves the litigation and trial of cases involving serious personal injury and wrongful death, encompassing industrial-related injuries and exposures, medical professional liability, products liability, and pharmaceuticals, including class and mass tort actions. Hurney is a Past President of the DTCWV.  He has been recognized by several organizations as a leading trial lawyer and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) and an Advocate of American Board of Trial Advocates. Hurney chairs Jackson Kelly’s Health Care & Finance Practice Group.
