IADC member Thomas J. Hurney, Jr., a member of Jackson Kelly PLLC in Charleston, West Virginia, was presented with The Robert L. Ghiz Award for Outstanding Service to the Physician Community of West Virginia by the West Virginia Mutual Insurance Company. Presented at the 2014 Healthcare Summit of the West Virginia Medical Association on August 22, 2014, the Ghiz Award recognizes “those individuals that have dedicated themselves to altruistic service, leadership and advocacy for the West Virginia physician community.” Mutual President Austin Wallace, M.D. presented the award to Hurney and fellow attorney Don R. Sensabaugh, Jr. in recognition of their work on behalf of the medical community to secure civil justice reforms that stabilized the liability environment for health care providers and enabled the formation of the WVMIC, a mutual company owned by West Virginia physicians.
Tom is Practice Group Leader of Jackson Kelly’s Health Care and Finance Practice Group. Tom is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is the Secretary of the ADTA. He served on the Faculty (the Pen-Hooligans) of the 2014 IADC Trial Academy.
